Media: Friend or Foe to Sotomayer?

So often powerful, intelligent and successful women are portrayed as domineering bullies. Particularly so with both the articles we read about Sonia Sotomayer. On numerous occasions in the articles, Sotomayer was described as "nasty," "difficult," "overly aggressive,""temperamental," and "harsh." This starkly contradicted the glowing accounts of Roberts. While it is possible Sotomayer was portrayed the way she was because she is a strong woman, but it's also very plausible that she is exactly how she is described. Considering the descriptions were mostly direct quotes it is easily deducilbe that the later is more possible. It is essential however, to never fully rely on the media for your information. A person needs to find their own truths through research and questioning. While the media might provide a starting point, one should not base their sole opinion on what the read because most often, the opinons of the paper or reporter show through.
